Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies the results. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or contact submission when needed to answer it. Messages remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, our servers automatically receive certain technical information about the visit:
- Page-view timestamps
- The referring site, when one is available
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, including popular pages and points where visits end. You may block cookies through your browser settings, although doing so can change how parts of the website function.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing search requests to the appropriate partner service
- Maintaining availability and page performance
- Finding and correcting technical problems
- Assessing which pages are useful or need improvement
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. The site provides general directions to Massac County record custodians, including the sheriff, criminal courts, Illinois State Police Division of Justice Services Bureau of Identification, and Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal records.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff pages, court portals, Illinois agencies, legal-aid resources, and outside search services. Once you follow an external link, that operator's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may track activity across websites to deliver targeted advertising. That tracking occurs on the provider's systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a submitted query
- Advertising networks placing ads on the website
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Depending on where you live, applicable law may provide additional rights. Relevant Illinois laws include the Personal Information Protection Act, 815 ILCS 530; the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, 815 ILCS 505; the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140; and the Uniform Conviction Information Act, 20 ILCS 2635. You may at least:
- Request deletion of your data
- Ask for a copy of information held about you
- Opt out of certain processing
- Request correction of inaccurate information
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. Any revision will be posted here with a new effective date, so review this page periodically for changes.
